USCCB Makes It Official: Democrats Plain Wrong on Abortion
A heroic statement has been issued today by the USCCB on the abortion issue. Thomas Peters has all the news of it up on his blog, with full coverage and astute analysis. This shoots down, unequivocally, those who try to claim that the USCCB has, in fact, tried to shut up the likes of Archbishop Chaput on this issue. The statement also puts the smackdown on “outside groups” like Catholics United, who keep rearing their evil little heads whenever stories on the Church and abortion make the rounds.
A prayer of thanks to God for the heroic work of the bishops, and that he preserve them and keep them strong in the coming struggles!

yes, and the bishops even stopped funding of ACORN, but not over ACORN’s pro obama stance, but because of an embezzlement coverup there. link
but don’t expect the press to notice.

What the bishops have stated should be read at ALL Masses in the USA. They should make it a requirement!

Maybe I’m not good at getting subtleties, but 2 Bishops are not “the USCC.”
Yes, it’s great. And so?

Dad29,
These bishops represent the whole conference. Rigali is the Chairman for the Committee of Pro-life Activities. Murphy is the Chairman for the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development. Thus, it is an official USCCB document, and not merely the opinion of two bishops.
Though, it is true, bishops conferences ultimately have no theological authority. Martino was correct in saying that USCCB documents do not take precedence over his own pastoral letters within his diocese. Still, the USCCB is speaking more strongly in this statement, chaired by Rigali and Murphy, than it has done in the past.
