Dan,

That was my point exactly. You supplied no argument as you continue to fail to do. A comment may or may not take the form of an argument; they are not mutually exclusive terms. When one makes a "comment" that takes the form of a claim, others can justly expect it to come with supporting rationale.

Thus, when I see you throwing out unsupported (and unsupportable) claims it is quite reasonable to reach the conclusion that you in fact demonstrate that you have little idea about that of which you speak. This well qualifies you as being emblematic of the quote which you chose as the basis of your initial "comment."

If you wish to make claims in your "comments" then please fashion them into lucid, well supported arguments. For example you make the unsupported claim of a non-sequitur for both my initial reply as well as in your calumny against faithful Catholics. I have shown you why my response is not a non-sequitur. You are offered an opportunity to explain why you believe that

Perhaps some additional clarification in terms is warranted. Fundamentalism is a term which arises in the late 19th and early 20th centuries among Protestants in the United States. It was taken from a series of articles called The Fundamentals and it was a response to Liberal Protestant theology which had begun to undermine Protestant faith. The tracts which came from this movement emphasized what they thought was fundamental to Christianity. Fundamentalism did not at the time, though popularly it is more that way now, promote a literalist reading of Scripture, though literalist reading of Scripture is what has become to be the touchstone of defining Fundamentalism today. Fundamentalism has always been ostentatiously anti_Catholic. Thus, using the phrase fundamentalist Catholic is itself a contradiction in terms.

Finally, smugness is an interior disposition which is quite difficult to intuit through short combox discussions. You might do better to stick to discussions of the issues than to bother with the immaterial suppositions about my attitudes.

In the end, the rules here are that if you wish simply to emote with unsupported calumny then you will be asked to take your "comments" elsewhere.

To clear things up, I'm referencing David's post, not Dan Tigerra's rather poor commenting. Substance, man, substance!

There are a lot of online dictionaries available: you should consult one. If you did you might learn the difference between a comment and an argument. You smug self congratulatory reply was based on a non sequitur. Of course that’s not surprising since it requires a whole series of mental non sequiturs to become a fundamentalist supporter of the Catholic Church Limited. No wonder they refer to you as a flock of sheep.

Dan,

Ironically, based upon the argument you have supplied, you seem to have better exemplified the quote than those whom you accuse.

Quote:... it is much easier to pontificate from a platform of ignorance than to seriously engage a position with which one disagrees.

A perfect description of every celibate RC Pope.
