Time to Vote
Well, a while ago we asked for favorite blogs that were no longer in operation. I finally got around to putting it up…actually, Shelray took over from my feeble attempts to get our poll plug-in working. So now it is time…
Update: You can vote once a day (unless you know how to cheat…but none of our visitors would do that
). Also, please consider leaving a comment about why you voted for whom you did and what you miss about the blog.
Where Did They Go? Which of the following is your Favorite Dead Blog:

Can anyone tell me what happened to Pontifications? It just sorta… died.
Comment by Josh Miller — August 7, 2007 @ 12:42 pm
I voted (only once!) for Noetic Muse because I would like to see Brian pick it up again.
Comment by monica — August 7, 2007 @ 4:16 pm
I wasn’t blogging when these blogs were around–but open book? I still link to open book?
Comment by tara — August 7, 2007 @ 5:40 pm
Tara - I was surprised to see it too, but just realizing the amount of e-mail she had to sift through everyday to do her posts, it is not surprising that she decided to move on. I think our next vote will be asking the question: “Who will replace Amy as St. Blog’s information hub?”
Comment by David — August 7, 2007 @ 7:07 pm
That was actually tough! Anyone know what happened to the Old Oligarch blog? I love Father Kimel’s Pontifications blog and hope he rejoins us soon.
Comment by bridgit — August 7, 2007 @ 9:17 pm
Too many old friends to pick just one.
Though I can add more having followed St. Blogs for over 5 years.
Emily Stimpson’s “Fool´s Folly”
Martha, Martha
Sodakmonk
Tim Drake (both blogs he started went away)
What a Mystery
Gregorian Rant
Confessions of a Recovering Choir Director
De Fidei Oboedientia
Credibility
The Old Oligarch (really miss that one)
Swimming the Tiber (He became a Monk)
Old Oligarch’s Painted Stoa
Goodform
SecretAgentMan’s Dossier
Just to name a few and then of course their are the ones that add a post very infrequently.

I vote for the late Gerald Serafin’s Catholic “Blog For Lovers”.
Comment by Trubador — August 8, 2007 @ 4:53 pm
Jeff - I had forgotten about SecretAgentMan. Why did he stop?
I suppose that blogging can be a time sink that many finally realize is not worth their time.
Trubador - I had forgotten about Catholic Blog For Lovers also and I did not realize that Gerald had passed away. Requiescat en pacem
Comment by David — August 8, 2007 @ 5:07 pm
David,
I don’t know why SAM stopped, but I did see him post over at FreeRepublic last month (or at least I think it was him).
Though this reminds me of another late blog I loved, The Mighty Barrister.
Comment by Jeff Miller — August 8, 2007 @ 6:12 pm
People who vote for Pontifications are just trying to look smart (kidding).
I almost voted for Pont., but chose the Rage Monkey instead. What a refreshingly pleasant, gentle read that was, and they talked about all the important things in down-to-earth Catholic life.
Comment by Kathy — August 8, 2007 @ 6:12 pm
Mr. Delaney,
Thank you very much for your kindness. It’s flattering enough to know that you may have enjoyed what I had done, but to number mine among those great blogs is quite humbling - non sum dignus…
Comment by Rick Lugari — August 8, 2007 @ 7:03 pm
Hey,
Where’s Seattle Catholic?
Tito
Comment by Tito — August 8, 2007 @ 8:41 pm
Rick - your too modest.
Tito - Jeff showed that we missed many others as well. We did a request for inputs a few weeks ago and due to poor memory, ignorance, and sloth we had to go with the inputs we got. With Jeff’s second list and other inputs perhaps we could do a dead blog poll B and then run off the two winners…

EASY!
The Ox Files.

David,
Good point. Next time!

I exchanged e-mails with SecretAgentMan recently and he told me he’s going to start the blog up again sometime this summer.
Comment by Gary Keith Chesterton — August 9, 2007 @ 11:33 am
Ahh, I miss A Catholic blog/page for lover’s too. I was hoping someone might keep it “going” somehow, in the same spirit.
Comment by monica — August 9, 2007 @ 2:40 pm
There are too many to just pick one.
I guess Jeff Miller really misses the Old Oligarch as he lists him twice!
I’d have to say the group would include, alphabetically:
A Catholic Blog for Lovers;
A Saintly Salamgundi;
A Son Becomes a Father;
Angry Twins;
Catholic Ragemonkey;
Come on, Get Lively;
Confessions of a Recovering Choir Director;
Fool’s Folly;
Gospel Minefield;
Gregorian Rant;
Lispers in the Woggia;
Old Oligarch’s Painted Stoa;
Postmodern Liturgist Resources;
Secret Agent Man;
Swimming the Tiber; and
The Mighty Barrister.
There are also blogs that have taken odd turns that I miss, but that’s a whole different story.
Comment by Gregg the obscure — August 9, 2007 @ 2:41 pm
Oops - forgot Extreme Catholic.
Comment by Gregg the obscure — August 9, 2007 @ 2:45 pm
I was wondering forever what happened to catholicnews.org, especially since her last entry was about how she was to give birth. I hope she and her baby are ok.
Comment by laura — August 9, 2007 @ 7:26 pm
I always enjoyed Fidei Defensor’s College Catholic blog.
Comment by Paul, Just This Guy, You Know? — August 10, 2007 @ 6:33 am
What happened to the Pontifications blog?
Comment by LCB — August 11, 2007 @ 12:22 am
Greg the obscure,
Kathryn Lively is still blogging, just at http://www.kathrynlively.com/blog.html
Comment by Jeff Miller — August 11, 2007 @ 11:32 am
Thanks for including Southern Appeal with so many other great “dead” blogs. It was fun while it lasted.
Comment by Steve Dillard — August 12, 2007 @ 12:34 pm
I miss the Holy Fool and he’s not on the list.
Comment by Tony — August 12, 2007 @ 9:47 pm
Yes, the Ox files. ;-). I really did the Angry Twins.
Comment by Kat — August 14, 2007 @ 4:04 pm
did ‘enjoy’ the angry twins. I meant to say.
Comment by Kat — August 14, 2007 @ 4:05 pm
Coming to this thread late, but I miss Albertus Minimus.
Comment by The Sheepcat — August 22, 2007 @ 8:33 am
Open Book may be closed, but Amy Welborn has started a new ‘blog. I miss the Holy Fool as well.
Comment by Ron Rolling — August 22, 2007 @ 11:22 pm
I’m flattered that even twenty people voted for my blog (noetic muse). I’m trying to pick it up again.
Comment by Brian Killian — September 22, 2007 @ 1:20 pm
So, I guess no one knows what happened to Ponitifications? You can still go to http://pontifications.wordpress.com/ and get a lot of his articles. Apparently, his previous web host (presumably CaNNet, i.e. classicalanglican.net) won’t let him access the archives of his original blog.
Comment by Kevin — October 7, 2007 @ 1:58 pm
thanks Kevin
Comment by shelray — October 7, 2007 @ 10:02 pm
While “Open Book” is defunct, Amy’s still blogging at “Charlotte was Both” so Pontifications gets my vote..there’s no blog now with a comparable community of theological discussion.
Comment by thomas — November 5, 2007 @ 3:05 pm
The Recovering Choir Director is back at http://www.cantemusdomino.net.
The new Pontifications site has occasional posts. And Mike Liccione continues to blog here: http://mliccione.blogspot.com/.
Comment by Samuel J. Howard — March 27, 2008 @ 9:21 am
Thanks Samuel.
