Out & Proud “Gay” Roman Catholic Priest Urges Ted Haggard to, “embrace and cherish that gay little heart”

Filed under: Dissent, SSA Disorder — shelray @ 7:21 pm

Father “B”, over at Bartimaeus’ Quest - Mark 10:5 , provided his blog readers with an unlikely response from a Catholic priest to Ted Haggard’s claim of being cured of his homosexuality and commented on those who are seriously trying to heal from the burden of their same-sex attraction.

Gay folk are gay. They don’t call it same-sex attraction for nothing. Pretending otherwise borders on the sinful. Definitely sinful is the church and society that crams our young people into closets not of their own making.

You know and I know that Ted has become a very dangerous person. He will act straight, pretend to be straight, even be an evangelist for straightness and conversion therapy — until he finds himself looking longingly at handsome men, secretly returning to pictures and images of handsome young men, until the yearning inside finds expression again in some anonymous massage parlor, until the need to cover his shame brings back the hunger and thirst for the drugs that masked it.

Father B is a “gay, out and proud”, Catholic priest ordained over 30 years and a pastor of an accepting parish, where he claims his sexual orientation is sacred not secret. As a result of the openess of his blog, Father “B” is either a fraud or is none other than Father “B”ob Bussen, pastor of Saint Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Park City Utah, who initiated the monthly parish GBLT Mass last month. He also lead the prayer service yesterday at the Salt Lake City WinterPride festival. Priests who preach their rebellious/scandalous doctrine not only put their own souls in danger, but also those of the parishioners who trust and have faith in their pastors. We need to pray especially hard for those who are in most need of God’s healing mercy.

  1. The only “little heart” that we should “embrace and cherish” is the SACRED HEART OF JESUS! Enough with the egoism already!

  2. How timely! I myself have just finished a response on my blog to a “gay catholic” defense of homosexuality. I feel like this is the number one hurdle we need to overcome in the Church today or it will take us all down with it! Too many catholics in the pews are apathetic to these issues. They not only don’t feel any type of urgency in correcting these errors, but many don’t consider them errors at all! Good catholics and especially good catholic priests need to do a much better job of explaining human sexuality and God’s plan for it in our lives! The future of the Church depends on it!

  3. So, do you believe that Ted Haggard is actually “cured” of his “condition”? I kind of agree with Father B (although not in such descriptive terms) that it may not be so.

  4. Kris -

I agree with you in a sense. I think that this issue is simply a very stark manifestation of a larger problem though. The larger problem is a general ignorance of the faith and a relativist morality which arises from legal positivism. As with many of the other problems we have among Catholics today, I would suggest that the “new evangelization” is required to transform Catholics such that they are able to understand and accept the authentic truth about the human person and the truth about what leads to authentic personal fulfillment and what leads to supernatural death.

I need to be careful on this one, because God and Mr. Haggard are the only ones who know for sure. That being said, given the time and what I have seen and heard of his attitude towards sex, it would have to be a miraculous healing.
I believe there is the possibility in the healing of ssa, but I also believe that it’s a struggle which doesn’t happen over night. There are also many who couragously carry their burden as a “thorn in the flesh”, but never act on their desires, which is a sign of grace.
Overall, I believe the healing of ssa is more of a conversion of the heart than an aseptic scrubbing of the mind.
