Finding Artificial Life Created by Nanobiotechnology

Filed under: Medical Ethics — shelray @ 12:12 AM

In order to safe guard humanity, the Lifeboat foundation is offering a reward to a person or any organization responsible for “creating an Animat/Artificial life form with an emphasis on the safety of the researchers, public, and environment OR the person or organization who shows that an Animat/Artificial life form has been created”.

  1. So what’s your position on this one and why, shelray? …Or do you not have one? We’re a LOOOOOONG way off of being able to “synthesize life,” unless it’s a clone of something relatively simple, especially using something like “nanotechnology” (industry buzz-word alert!).

  2. “When we gain the ability to make our own life forms from scratch — not simply genetic engineering, but direct creation — it could be so different from preexisting species that it would make sense to call it a new “class of life” entirely. Over the coming years and decades, we have a responsibility to watch out for this new class of life, and try to steer its creation in ways that help us rather than hurt us.”

Taking the above quote from the website, my position is that man will never be able to create any type of life form, only alter or manipulate what is already living, so my position is that there are some really intelligent individuals out there that can do some real damage if they think they can play God.

  3. Well, we won’t have to worry about that in our generation – if it ever comes to something like that. I, Robot? Think more along the lines of possibly I, Never. That sort of brings into question then on what is “life” and what we consider “living”? Bear in mind that this is decidedly different than the question “what is human”.

  4. this is a really lame website, and that image up there … i went to the museum where it was on show and i saw it, it’s not a chimera, as a chimera is made up of multiple animals and IS NOT human! it was truly beautiful ART a CREATION in other words, NOT REAL!
