“Banned” Anti-Catholic Cartoon to be Aired on German MTV
“German Roman Catholics and a conservative party protested Monday against plans to televise a disputed cartoon depicting the pope as a pogo-stick riding brat. “Popetown,” which stirred controversy in New Zealand and was deemed too offensive for British viewers, is to air in Germany on music channel MTV starting May 3.”
“Both German bishops and a political party from the country’s strongly Catholic south, complained about the show, which features corrupt cardinals, a buxom nun and an infantile pope who bounces around the Vatican on a pogo stick. They took particular offense to an MTV advert showing Christ sitting in an armchair in front of a cross with the slogan “Laugh instead of hanging around.”"
This show will also air on the Comedy Channel in Australia in July.
