Saying More Than They Might Wish…
I am going to put the final post of the Sex and the Human Person series on hold until Monday so I can catch up on my lectures for next week.
In the meantime, I thought I would share this with those who might have missed it on LifeSiteNews. It seems that a coalition of 22 homosexual “rights” groups are up in arms over proposed legislation which would allow police to establish “prostitution free zones” in the U.S. capital. What is the problem you might ask (I did)? LifeSiteNews reports:
Program coordinator Darby Hickey, from the homosexual rights group Different Avenues, complained that the program would unfairly target transgendered people. “There’s widespread profiling of transgender women as sex workers,†Hickey, who is transgendered, said, as reported by the Washington Blade. “These measures … have a huge potential for violating people’s rights.â€
Hickey’s co-worker, Different Avenues drop-in center coordinator Erika Smith, argued that the law is a way for police to get rid of transgender people. “I think that’s what it’s really, really, really coming down to,†she stated. “I think they are trying to get rid of the transgender community.â€
As the article title rightly infers, it seems to me that what these folks are admitting is that homosexuality is linked to prostitution. How else could arresting prostitutes or those soliciting for sex be targeting “transgender” people?
We live in a fallen world. It is simply remarkable to me the fallenness that we have come to accept as normal. Like I keep saying, these things are self correcting. Either we will stop lauding treatable illnesses as alternative lifestyles or we will get to try our hand at rebuilding a collapsed society.

Errr…. “homosexual” and “transgendered” are not the same thing. Suggesting that they are, then tying it to prostitution, is erroneous and, it seems, an act of willful ignorance.
Oh, and just for reference, neither homosexuality nor being transgendered are “illnesses.” There’s nothing to cure in either case.

Homosexuality refers to the disorder of same sex attraction. Transgender is a form of same sex attraction with its own special problems. Thus, this is not an inappropriate correlation.
Oh, and just for reference, neither homosexuality nor being transgendered are “illnesses.†There’s nothing to cure in either case.
This is an assertion in contradiction to all of the available evidence. It is in contradiction to the biological order which is evidenced by the plethora of medical ailments associated with sodomy. It is in contradiction to the psycho-spiritual order as evidenced by the emotional and psychological disorders which are many times higher among those who submit to temptations associated with SSA than the general population.

Okay. You can believe whatever you want. Free country. There’s just no evidence to support you in that statement. The clinical evidence that links homosexuality with mental illness.

No, not really. Transgenderism deals with gender identity, not sexual orientation. Different concepts, different brain-structures too from what we can tell. Gay people, in general, don’t believe they are physically the wrong gender. Transgendered individuals don’t believe themselves to be gay. Your correlation is faulty.

Again, you are entitled to your superstition that assigns magical intent to the fall of leaf, or the ascent of sacred smoke. Free country again. But your belief doesn’t make it so. Nature doesn’t have a “purpose.”

Like your original posting, you are mixing terms and concepts up again. You’ve taken a term for a sexual activity (and a pretty ambiguous term at that) and made it synonymous with sexual orientation. Not the same thing.

What about the spiritual-psycho order? Or the psycho-order spiritual? As long as we’re making up nifty, though utterly meaningless, grandiose sounding terms, I need to make a list.

Again, starting with research conducted in the late 1970s, its been a consistent finding that mental illness and homosexuality aren’t causal. Neither forms the other.
As with many populations, such women, men, black, white, teens, elderly, poor, we can see differences, in mental health across the span, and correlated to a variety of issues. Only a tool would leap to the conclusion that this somehow means any of those groups is, as an inherent characteristic, “ill.”

Jody – are you familiar with Nominalism? You seem to possess the erroneous Nominalist presuppositions about reality and the human person. However, you can choose to ignore reality but there are nasty prices to pay in terms of physiological and affective dysfuction for doing so.

You might want to refer to a previous post where I compile a list of the plethora of secular studies (subsequent to the magical “early 1970s” date you wish to cling to by the way) that “do tell.” Take a gander:

Interesting you choose such a date. It wouldn’t have to do with the APA’s decision to capitulate to pressure and remove SSA from the list of disorders would it? After this date, it is true that not many are looking for a correlation anymore (when the APA says it is unethical so to do) but there is still ample evidence as shown in the above link.
It appears by your less than congenial attitude that you may have an affective attachment to this issue. If that is correct, eventually you or someone you care about will reach a point of crisis. Just remember that there is hope. Remember the apostolate Courage.
