Agenda Driven Secular Abuse Response
Alisa Craddock writes a very good article that identifies some important incongruities in the current “concern” over the sexual abuse of children. She presents data showing that public schools are the most dangerous place for children in terms of being subjected to abuse but all too often, a blind eye is turned to these problematic institutions.
Craddok does not intend to excuse abuses by those within the Church. Rather, she sets to show that courts and legislators are in some acting out of ignorance, but in too many others, agenda driven. Contrary to mainstream media driven perceptions, a good majority of U.S. bishops are taking needed steps (though perhaps some missteps) to protect our children. It’s time to start looking at how children are being protected (or not) in the rest of U.S. society.

[...] The study, done by Charol Shakeshaft, estimates that “more than 4.5 million students are subject to sexual misconduct by an employee of a school sometime between kindergarten and 12th grade.” Shakeshaft has said that abuse in public schools is “100 times more likely than abuse by priests.” A post of mine a few days ago linked to an article that showed how public schools in Colorado were given a pass in legislation aimed solely at allowing more opportunity for legal action against the Catholic Church. If Hamilton were really interested in protecting children, her article would been a little more balanced in discussing the scope of the issue, including data such as the Shakeshaft report in place of the rumors and innuendo against Cardinal Egan and the spin in interpreting actions in the legal proceedings in Spokane. In the end, her anecdotal examples may fan the flames of misperception and bigotry but present little in the way of substantive support for her claim that the entirety of Catholic Church leadership in the United States is corrupt and not to be trusted. I suspect her next article will attempt to get Virginia to once again invade Maryland in order to put down the Catholic heathen that infect the state… Would it be too harsh to suggest that Hamilton is an anti-Catholic/religious ideologue intent on using logical sophistry to influence legislation (including that of the activist juridical flavor) in order to rid society of the “scourge” of Catholicism specifically, and perhaps religion in general?
