“A Church confused over sexual issues?”

Bernadette J. Brooten, director of the Feminist Sexual Ethics Project at Brandeis University , is typical of a confused, agenda driven journalist who has no concept of the foundation of truth behind the Church’s teaching on sexuality and morality. Ignorance leading the ignorant is so often the source of hatred, bigotry, and self righteousness.

For example, she reported in her recent Boston Globe article, By defining homosexuality as the problem, the Vatican also masks the fact that numerous priests have had, and are having, sexual relations with adult women. Unlike therapists or physicians, priests are not usually legally prohibited from having sexual relations with the women whom they counsel. Women whose trust priests have betrayed have rarely been able to sue for damages, and the media have therefore seldom reported their stories.

That makes sense, a convenient scheme of victimizing men with same sex attraction so our priests can have sex with adult women. I guess Bernadette is “chalking up” another one for the good ole boys. I assume that she has already reported these priests to the authorities and hopefully a lawyer somewhere would accept a case against the Catholic church. I guess when you have no facts, you can use your own delusional perceptions as the foundation of truth. Her issue with the Church appears to be focused on heterosexual men abusing their power and being protected by other heterosexual men. I am not surprised that the author of the book titled,  Love Between Women: Early Christian Responses to Female Homo eroticism would have a skewed vision and trust of the Church. My concern is more for those in the Church who refuse to look at the facts. It’s easy to rationalize for thinking the way we do, but it’s time some of us pull our head out of the sand, shake ourselves, and make decisions based on facts; our personal feelings, preferences and personal agendas don’t mean a thing to the victims of abuse.

  1. This same person recently decried last week in the Boston Globe the “Vatican’s” document on homosexual seminarians and the approach that priests must not only be men, but must be “real” men.

Now you referred last week to the God in the Streets of New York vocations clip. Well, have you seen the new one – Fishers of Men – which takes up this “you need to be a real man” theme. It sort of leaves Bernadette Brooten swinging in the breeze.

  3. Aussie,
Thanks for the link to the Fishers of Men Project.
I also noticed the term realmen by Brooten. I can only imagine what her preception of a real man would be. Maybe she is just taking a cheap shot at the heterosexual male in general. It sounds like she has anger towards men, perhaps her experience with men has left an emotional scar of some type.

  4. Well it is typicl garbage from the Boston Globe. I like people like this that think their smart, but there not. They have nothing interesting to write about so they put crap like this to fill up their paper. I think a bunch of Conservative Catholic Bloggers should get together and come up with a paper and write articles about stupid people like this, sort of like David Lettermans Top 10 List.
